Sight #148 - Ali Wood

Born November 1st 1876 as Alexander Tsulukidze in what is now western Georgia, Ali’s whereabouts were relatively unaccounted for for over one hundred years before reemerging as ‘Ali Wood’ at a special ceremony at Leamington Fish Bar (formally Bodrums) in 2014.

Since his comeback, however, Ali has found himself in the newspapers on several occasions for all the wrong reasons.

Ali’s favourite episode of Diagnosis Murder is “Must Kill TV” (S5 E9).

Sight #147 - Matt Cowen

Entrepreneur, model, proud kleptomaniac and father of seventeen Matt Cowen was born May 26th 1995 and currently works as a professional street performer outside the newly revamped Barclays Bank on The Parade. Matt specialises in street art surrounding the banking industry; pulling rabbits out of cashpoints and increasing the interest on a random audience member’s bank account are two of his better known “tricks”.

Sight #146 - Garth “Gaz” Samperi

Radio host and Leamington born legend Gaz Samperi was born September 29th 1993. His first high-profile media role was as a presenter of the popular children’s show Blue Peter, from which he was fired in 1998 after 18 months. Following Blue Peter, Samperi worked as a reporter or presenter on numerous television shows, including The Big Breakfast, and on radio stations including Capital FM, and Xfm London.

Sight #145 - Alan “Bibs” Babington

Alan was born July 21st 1974 and DJs at the Clarendon Disco under the alias “Alan”. In his spare time Alan is a decorator, offering to paint any room of any size for any price as long as it can include his trademark 6ft stencil of Robert Kilroy Silk. Alan is perhaps most famous for insisting people converse with him in third person.

Sight #144 - Dom Malchar

Dom Malchar was born June 30th 1979, plays drums, and is originally from the Moravian-Silesian region of the Czech Republic although you probably know it better by its colloquial name; ‘The Steel Heart of the Country’ - which is also a nickname Dom has adopted himself.

Dom spends his spare time finishing off his first movie script; it depicts a dystopian future in which reality as perceived by most humans is actually a simulated reality created by sentient machines to subdue the human population, while their bodies’ heat and electrical activity are used as an energy source. A computer hacker (played by and named Dom Malchar) learns this truth and is drawn into a rebellion against the machines, which involves other people who have been freed from the “dream world”.

He calls it “The Dom-in-Matrix”.

Sight #143 - Ben Green

Pub landlord, friend, lover - however you know Ben Green, his hearty laugh and colourful anger issues has made him a true sight of Leamington Spa. Ben was born December 6th 1967, is 5 ft 11 tall and goes by the nicknames; “Bombproof Ben”, “Bovine Ben”, “Buxom Ben” and “Astro”.

A good wind turbine, holidaying in Yemen and shouting his catchphrase, “It’s Ben nice having yoooou!” and the top of his lungs.

Sight #142 - Andrew Bulman

Following lay-offs internally at the Sights of Leamington headquarters, hunks did come to a short stop and we apologise for that. Luckily, we had one sent in by ‘A. Bulman’ which reads; “Please put my handsome friend Andrew on your page - he’s from Leamington and is really cool”.

We’ve CRB checked Andrew, and can tell you he was born February 14th (Valentine’s Day ;) ) 1975, and has no outstanding relevant criminal cases pending.

Sight #141 - Benny Hall

Manager, owner and cleaner of the popular bar The Jesters’ Jugs, 33-year-old father of two, Ben Hall is probably best known in the Leamington community for coming third on a Christmas 2011 episode of The Chase. When he’s not working at Jugs, you’ll find Ben competing in a variety of outdoors activities including begging for money, searching for cigarettes and taking part in his favourite hobby, searching the bins for food.

Sight #140 - Oliver Paginton

Born 23rd August 1958, you’d probably recognise Oliver as the owner, manager, cleaner, janitor and house-spoken-word-artist of the popular club, ‘Wild!’. Oliver is perhaps best known for his cheeky smile when customers order his signature drink, a mixture of Palm wine and Gin & Tonic - or as Oliver calls it, Oliver’s Greatnormous Gintonpalmwiner.

Sight #139 - Nino Marsala

International week continues here at Sights of Leamington with famous chef Nino Marsala, who currently runs the kitchen at the popular bar, ‘Crickets’. Nino is perhaps best known through his signature dishes, which include 'Alphabetti Spaghetti’, 'Turkey Dinosaurs’ and 'Smiley Faces Potatoes’.

Sight #138 - Edu Aguado

Edu (foto de arriba - el ser humano, no el perro) nació 09 de abril 1976 en El Clot, España y se trasladó a Leamington Spa pasada primavera por la única razón para que aparezca en Vistas de Leamington.

In his spare time, Edu enjoys imposing many of his Spanish cultures onto citizens of Leamington Spa - these include; afternoon naps (or a ‘siesty’), street festivals (or a 'fiesty’) and Twister.

Curling up on the sofa and having an extra long siesty, meeting his friends at a fiesty and right hand yellow, left hand red, right foot blue, left foot green in Twister.

Sight #137 - Nav Bains

Self described as ‘cheeky’ Nav and born July 22nd 1991, Nav graduated with a 2.1 degree in Psychology and a third class degree in media studies from Aston Brookes University. Perhaps Nav is best known to the public for his endless campaigning for a Burger King in Leamington, so much so that several newspapers bestowed the nickname 'Whopper’ on him.

Sight #136 - “Gav” Openshaw

Barkeep ‘Gav’ was born February 2nd 1973 and manages the popular club 'Crickets’. In Gav’s spare time he practices playing slap bass, known throughout Leamington for his association with the funk bands; 'The Ants’, 'The International Jets’, 'The Acorns’ and his latest solo project 'Open-Shaw Hours’.

Sight #135 - Stevie Maugham

Born March 20th 1994, Stevie is best known as the drummer for the legendary soft-folk band ‘Girly Screams’, who’s new album titled 'Steptacular’ is out this week. In his spare time Stevie works for his manager and brother, “Rash” as a plumber at Anchors.

Sight #134 - “Surly” Thomas Beynon

“Surly” Tom was born June 29th 1981 and moved away from Leamington to Guildford with dreams of being an actor. Since moving, Thomas has starred in such productions as ‘Stop the Planet of the Apes, I Want to Get Off!’, 'McBain IV: Fatal Discharge’ and 'The Contrabulous Fabtraption of Professor Horatio Hufnagel’.
